District Newsletter: July 2024

Assemblymember Rubio

A hot, hot hello, wishing you all a fantastic summer season!

It is my pleasure to represent the 48th Assembly District in the California State Legislature. This term serves as my 8th year as a Legislator in the California State Assembly. It is an honor to serve over 498,000 residents in our district and collaborate with nine cities in the San Gabriel Valley. I am excited to share our 2024 July Newsletter and ensure our communities stay up-to-date with state-related matters.

Community Engagement

July was dripping with educational opportunities at the Latinos for Water 2024 WELL Legislative Workshop! Congratulations to President Ralph Galvan, the City of Duarte's Mayor Pro Tem Cesar Garcia, and the City of Monrovia’s Councilmember Sergio Jimenez for highlighting the importance of water policy and education. I am also grateful to our distinguished panelists: Dr. Anthony Fellow, Russ Bryden, and Jose Martinez. The workshop was a great experience filled with productive conversations that helped the audience connect with the process of water sourcing, management, and delivery. I am grateful for the insights garnered from these esteemed leaders in the field. As a former water board member, I look forward to continuing our efforts as we advocate for the future of water in the San Gabriel Valley. Thank you again to all who made this experience possible, informative, and fun.

Fourth of July Celebrations

What incredible displays of patriotism, joy, neighborliness, and fun we saw in the 48th District on the Fourth of July. It was great to witness these really well-organized, collaborative, and outstanding celebrations. A huge thank you to all who enacted these experiences and to those who showed up and got in on the fun.

ADU Building Plans

I want to direct your attention to my colleague Assemblyman Juan Carrillo’s AB 1332, which requires that every county by January 2025 has pre-approved ADU plans. This will help expedite the process of building an accessory dwelling unit on your property. Learn about what ADU plans for LA County would look like on the LA County Planning website.

Legislative Update

We are entering the last leg of the legislative race here in the Capitol. Bills are making their last appearances on the senate and assembly floor before arriving on the Governor’s desk for signing. We are thrilled that two of our bills have made it through this process so far. As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, AB 2213 was signed and we can now happily add AB 1935 to that list. AB 1935 seeks to bolster our tribal government’s efforts to provide essential services in areas such as education, health, safety and general welfare, to their citizens by redirecting surplus monies paid by gaming tribes into the Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund. This legislation was accomplished through collaboration between the governor, tribal interests and myself for California’s tribal governments.

Intern Spotlight

We are always excited when a fresh face and open mind comes into our office! This month, we’re excited to have Daniel Payan-Siegrist joining us at our district office. Daniel is a second-year undergraduate at UC Berkley and is committed to pursuing a career in law. In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer, reading, traveling, rock climbing, and hanging out with his friends and siblings. We are happy to have you on our team, Daniel, and so curious to see where you go in life!
