District Newsletter: June 2025

Assemblymember Rubio

Hello, and a very happy and hot July to you all!

Summer is in full swing! I hope you are all enjoying time off from school, spending some weekends in the sunshine, and of course, staying hydrated and cool.

It is my pleasure to represent the 48th Assembly District in the California State Legislature. This term serves as my 9th year as a Legislator in the California State Assembly. It is an honor to serve over 498,000 residents in our district and collaborate with nine cities in the San Gabriel Valley. I am excited to share our June 2025 Newsletter and ensure our communities stay up-to-date with state-related matters.

Irwindale Teen Center Grand Opening

Congratulations to the Irwindale Teen Club on their ribbon-cutting and grand reopening ceremony! Team Rubio was pleased to join the City and Parks and Recreation in celebrating this amazing accomplishment. We appreciate all the efforts made to engage our youth in a safe and entertaining environment where they can grow, have fun, and spend time with friends, just in time for the summer too!

Young Legislators Program
Sacramento Trip

Our young legislators have officially completed all six of the events that shaped the six months of our program. I am so proud of this program, as a teacher and as someone who believes in a hands-on approach to learning, I know the experience of the students who participate is invaluable. Throughout the last six months, our students have learned about financial literacy, etiquette and networking skills, local politics, hydrogen and water and finally, the culminating experience of the legislative process in the California State Assembly.

Lunch with a Legislator

One of the workshops I am most proud of is the “Lunch with a Legislator”, where various colleagues come to meet with our students. During our delicious pizza and salad bar lunch, Assemblymembers and advocates from Sacramento rotated throughout the restaurant to share their experience, life advice, and expertise with our young legislators. I am so grateful for my colleagues' interaction and participation with our young legislators; these experiences are invaluable and so meaningful. A special thank you to Assemblywoman Patel, Assemblywoman Stefani, Assemblywoman Elhawary, Assemblyman Patterson, Assemblyman Carillo, Assemblyman Solache, and Assemblyman Gonzalez, Senator Rubio, and my friends from WSPA and CCPOA for coming!

Capitol Updates

Legislative Updates

All bills that began in the Assembly at the beginning of the year have now moved on to the Senate and vice versa. As of the end of June, two of our bills have made it out of their first hearings on the Senate side: AB 428, Joint Powers Agreements: Water Corporations, which passed unanimously out of Senate Local Government and AB 373, Client Directed Representation for Non Minor Dependents, which passed out of Senate Judiciary.

The rest of our bill package will be heard over the course of July, in their respective committees, and will eventually be heard on the Senate floor. In case you didn’t know this– Assemblymembers cannot present their bills on the Senate floor and Senators cannot present their bills on the Assembly floor (the last step after the bills are heard in committee) this means that Senators and Assemblymembers have to find someone to carry and present their bill (floor managers).

A “See You Later”; not “Goodbye” to our Intern Kasey Clark
kasey

Our District Office Intern Kasey Clark wrapped up her final day with us at the end of June. My staff in the District and the Capitol will both greatly miss her as she continues on her academic journey. Kasey is driven, smart, endlessly kind, and deeply curious about life and those around her. She is exceptionally stylish, she brings creativity and fun to everything she does, and has truly been a blessing to Team Rubio. Kasey will undoubtedly excel at anything she chooses to put her mind to and pour her heart into. She also just graduated from Azusa Pacific as a Social Work major and a Fine Arts minor– of course! We will miss you so much. You have made lifelong friends and have made such a distinct impact on your colleagues and community.

What better time to start than during summer break?
