District Newsletter: October 2023

Assemblymember Rubio

Greetings everyone,

It is my pleasure to represent the 48th Assembly District in the California State Legislature. This term will serve as my 7th year as a Legislator in the California State Assembly. It is an honor to serve over 498,000 residents in our district and collaborate with nine cities in the San Gabriel Valley. I am excited to share our 2023 October Newsletter and ensure our communities stay up-to-date with state-related matters.

AD 48 Career and Veteran Resource Fair

I had the pleasure of hosting my annual Career and Veteran Resource Fair this month. Many residents received various employment opportunities, veteran resources, and educational pathway information.

This event was made possible due to our outstanding community partners. Thank you to the City of West Covina, American Job Centers of California (AJCC), local employers, and veteran organizations for supporting our constituents in the 48th Assembly District. It was great to see our residents walk away with job interviews that will lead to their next endeavor. I can’t wait for next year!

Assemblywoman Rubio Co-Hosts the WELL Untapped Fellowship Water Workshop

Let’s talk water! I had a great time seeing my colleagues at the Water Education for Latino Leaders (WELL) Workshop in the City of Baldwin Park. I was thrilled to be a keynote speaker alongside Senator Susan Rubio and speak on my experience as a former member of the Valley County Water Board and a current member of the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee.

Water is an essential resource we use on a daily basis. Thank you to the WELL Leaders, Council Member Manny Acosta, School Board President Dr. Sabrina Bow, and our panelists for communicating the importance of water policy to our elected officials and community members.

Visiting the Hanger Clinic in the City of Covina

Thank you to the California Orthotic and Prosthetic Association for inviting me to visit the Hanger Clinic in Covina. I witnessed the thoughtful patient care from Hanger Clinic’s incredible staff and had the privilege of hearing from our resilient residents seeking services.

Spaces like these are necessary for our families to experience a greater quality of life. I am proud to learn about the extraordinary work being done and will continue to advocate for our vulnerable populations.

Legislative Update

I am excited to announce that Governor Newsom signed eight of my bills into California law.

Each of these bills will help Californians around the state in various aspects of their lives. These pieces of legislation will support domestic violence survivors, create judicial assistance in stopping illegal cannabis operators, and protect highway/road construction workers with barriers for safety.

We thank our advocates and constituents for the hard work that went into this year’s bill package. I can’t wait to introduce more essential bills and continue advocating for our residents in the 48th Assembly District.

I am incredibly honored to receive the 2023 Advocacy Humanitarian Award from Peace Over Violence alongside Senator Susan Rubio and our dear friend, Ana Estevez. I am grateful to be recognized for these efforts and commemorated by an organization that shares the same values. I am passionate about protecting women, children, and families within the great state of California and in the 48th Assembly District!

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I was proud to highlight legislation I have authored and co-authored to support our survivors and victims of domestic violence. Each of these bills were successfully signed into California Law.

As Chair of the Select Committee on Domestic Violence, I am passionate about helping our women, children, and families impacted by DV. It is imperative that the California State Legislature continues to provide necessary resources and policy changes to help end the cycle of violence.
