Hello and Happy November to Everyone!
I wish you all a beautiful fall season and the best of luck adapting to the time change! I am sending warmth and positivity to our community as we embark upon the holiday season. Seriously, where does the time go?!
It is my pleasure to represent the 48th Assembly District in the California State Legislature. This term marks my 8th year as a legislator in the California State Assembly. It is an honor to serve over 498,000 residents in our district and collaborate with nine cities in the San Gabriel Valley. I am excited to share our October 2024 newsletter and ensure our communities stay up-to-date with state-related matters.
Community Engagement
Career Fair: City of Irwindale
Team Rubio hosted a career fair in Irwindale, where we were able to support our community in connecting with job opportunities from various sectors: hospitality, veteran affairs, higher education, public safety, and transportation. Here, event-goers were also able to cultivate interview skills and develop their resumes. What a great turnout it was! Thank you to all those who provided helpful information and advice and exposed new pathways for the success and advancement of our community. Thank you to everyone who came down to see what it was all about! You are the reason we do this work!
School House Groundbreaking, City of Azusa
I was proud to join my sister, Senator Susan Rubio in the next step in moving this piece of history to a new location at Veterans Freedom Park. With the $3 million the Senator and I were able to secure for this project back in 2022, we will see the Old School House be renovated, restored and curated. It will serve as a reminder of the difficult past Mexican Americans endured in their education journey, having once been the container for segregationist policies and racist teaching practices. We are grateful to enrich the community’s cultural understanding and more importantly, to shed the difficulties of the past and move forward armed with respect, empathy and compassion to all cultures and ethnicities.
Check Presentation: Valinda School of Academics
The Valinda School of Academics received a $5,000 grant through the Barona Grant Program. This grant will benefit first- through fifth-graders in the Valinda robotics program. I am really excited for the students in our underserved communities to gain greater access to and exposure in the STEM field, pursuing pathways that they find both enjoyable and gratifying. As an educator of 16 years, I know the value of supporting children in the learning modalities that excite them. We are thankful for the support of the Barona Grant Program.
Azusa Library Ribbon Cutting
Azusa’s library received $6.5 million in California State Library funding for renovations. This is great news, and it's so exciting to see the partnership and collaboration of city leaders bringing meaningful results to the community. Libraries are a fantastic resource for anyone who walks through their doors. It is so important that we continue to uplift these spaces and ensure they remain accommodating, well-maintained, and hospitable. Congratulations, Azusa! We love our local libraries!
Birdie Bash
One spectacular event that didn’t make the cut in September’s newsletter was my Third Annual Birdie Bash. I am so thankful for the partnership and support of my friend Azucena from the Latina Golfers for helping bring this event to life. Attendees were able to network, connect with fellow leaders in the San Gabriel Valley, and put their swing to the test. Thank you to everyone who came out, and thank you to Glen Oaks Country Club for the wonderful accommodations. See you next year!
