Hello and happy October to everyone!
I wish you all a beautiful beginning to the fall season and send warmth and positivity to our community as we walk into autumn.
It is my pleasure to represent the 48th Assembly District in the California State Legislature. This term serves as my 8th year as a Legislator in the California State Assembly. It is an honor to serve over 498,000 residents in our district and collaborate with nine cities in the San Gabriel Valley. I am excited to share our September 2024 Newsletter and ensure our communities stay up-to-date with state-related matters.
Community Engagement
Covina Recreation Village Project
We had a groundbreaking moment in our district’s history! I am proud to announce that in 2021, we secured $2.5 million in state funding for the Covina Recreation Village Project, which will come to life over the next year. This Recreational Village will welcome residents of all ages, fostering curiosity and encouraging healthier habits. It will feature an indoor recreation complex, a rock climbing structure, educational training facilities, and even a dog park. Thank you to our city leaders for their collaborative work on this project.
Jones Middle School ESports Program
Jones Middle School had a grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new ESports Program this month. This event provided the opportunity to explore the custom gaming classroom, meet the coaches, and discover the future of competitive gaming at our schools. Congratulations to Jones Middle School and a thank you to Baldwin Park Unified for accommodating and making space for the inclusion of new modalities of learning and fun.
Susan Rubio Zocalo Park and Civic Center Plaza
I am so proud of Senator Susan Rubio for delivering her promise to our Baldwin Park community. Since her days on the city council, she has envisioned another great outdoor space made available for the people of Baldwin Park. Susan immediately worked on getting funding for this project. A few years later, with hard work and vision, we now get to enjoy the Susan Rubio Zocalo Park & Civic Center Plaza. Congratulations and thank you to Senator Rubio, Baldwin Park, and Baldwin Park School District for this great accomplishment of preserving open spaces and building stronger communities.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is important we are here as community members and community leaders to support and advocate for this cause and its ramifications. Some things to note from the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence are:
“Domestic violence causes emotional and physical trauma, depleting victims of their basic needs. It is also lethal. In addition to the toll of domestic violence on survivors & families, it also has huge economic consequences on the state. Community domestic violence organizations provide essential services for people being abused by their partner and their families. Domestic violence is preventable. We have a shared responsibility to prevent domestic violence and support healthy relationships for future generations”.
Attached is a map to organizations made available in California to help those experiencing domestic violence. Please share with anyone who may need access or would be useful in providing this information.

Intern Spotlight
Meet Kasey, the new district intern. She will be spending the coming months working within the district office as a senior through Azusa Pacific University's BSW program. Kasey has a heart for advocacy and hopes that this position will not only broaden her understanding of the legislature but strengthen her relational skills as well.
