SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Blanca E. Rubio (D-Baldwin Park), along with assistance from the Regional Chamber of Commerce, San Gabriel Valley, hosted a successful Veterans Job and Resource Fair on Saturday in West Covina. The fair connected veterans with employers and service organizations that place hiring priority on those who have served our country.
“Our veterans courageously put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms, and many of them are seeking opportunities to improve their quality of life. I am extremely proud to represent a community that came together to answer that call,” Assemblywoman Rubio said.
Businesses such as Amazon, Proterra, Republic Services, US Security Associates, Certified Safe Driver and many others had representatives on hand to provide information on available positions and guidance through the application process. Organizations like the East San Gabriel Valley ROP, EDD, LA County office of Military and Veterans Affairs were there to help veterans connect to services, including healthcare benefits, financial assistance plans, educational opportunities, and interview coaching.
California is home 1.8 million veterans, making up eight percent of the entire U.S. veteran population. Assemblywoman Rubio believes providing effective assistance to this population is crucial, and plans to host similar job and resource fairs annually throughout the 48th Assembly District.
The 48th Assembly District, is comprised of the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bradbury, City of Industry, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Glendora, Irwindale, Monrovia, West Covina, and the San Gabriel Valley unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, including Bassett, Charter Oak, Citrus, East Arcadia, Ramona, Valinda and West La Puente.
