(Sacramento) - According to a recent report, unemployment for young adults with autism is estimated at 90 percent nationwide. That’s why Assemblywoman Blanca E. Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) is calling for the passage of AB 2840, which would help fund an Autism employment pilot program for three years in Sacramento and Los Angeles counties. “While multiple factors can contribute to low employment numbers for young adults with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), a fundamental component is a lack of understanding of the disability itself,” says Assemblywoman Rubio. “Proper education, outreach, and training of employers can help them take action to recruit, hire, promote, and retain individuals with autism.” Watch this Assembly Access video to learn more about AB2840 and why Assemblywoman Rubio is working to ensure more job opportunities for people living with Autism.
