(Sacramento) – Assemblywoman Blanca E. Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) spoke of her own path to the State Assembly as she implored her colleagues to pass the Immigrant Worker Protection Act (Assembly Bill 450), a measure authored by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) that protects workers from disruptive immigration enforcement workplace raids. “I was an undocumented immigrant who was actually deported,” Assemblywoman Rubio told her fellow lawmakers. “Members, I know firsthand the fears, the stress, the confusion of trying to survive moment by moment…knowing you can be torn away from your family and deported anytime.” Here’s more of her story in this Assembly Access video.
